Mick Jagger, Madison Square Garden 1969 (1of5) 4

November 27, 1969

When we first looked at this picture, the first thing that came to mind was how small the stage was at the Garden, and how close the audience was to the musicians.  The Stones had four roadies protecting them, escorting people (mostly girls) who rushed them off the stage.  This shot was taken during “Honky Tonk Woman” which was filmed by the Maysles Brothers who are clearly visible in the photograph.  You can see the film clip on YouTube, or in their 1970 documentary “Gimme Shelter”.
