I seek the subjects—be they people or horses–who carry a lifetime of struggle and adversity in their eyes.” Adding, “I attempt to capture and document the quiet courage of the survivor.”
Photographer Tom Doody was drawn to the world of equine photography by a love of animals, the outdoors and the freedom that is associated with America’s wild horses. Having always been attracted to the world of photography but intimidated by what he calls the “math factor” and the rigors of film processing, Tom spent the first half on the periphery of the photography world. Eventually the inevitable occurred and he made the leap: acquiring an early Nikon digital camera body and some quality lenses, honing his skills through trial and error over the past ten years.
Tom’s introduction to equine photography and the world of America’s wild horses came with his wife Pamela’s acquisition of a horse and her immersion into the equine world. Since then, his focus has been on capturing and printing images of wild horses at Return to Freedom American Wild Horse Sanctuary in Lompoc, California. In support of their efforts, Tom donates 10% of profits from the sale of his work to Return To Freedom. We are pleased to present Tom Doody’s first Gallery Exhibition at Canvas.
